Who’s your daddy?

Posted on: February 17, 2008

Yesterday we all had a nice afternoon out. After lunch at Moe’s, we stopped at Lowe’s, and I stayed in the car with the kids while David ran in to buy something. While we waited, Logan and I talked about brothers and sisters, and how brothers are boys and sisters are girls. We had a conversation that went roughly like this:

Mom: “So Logan, are you a brother or a sister?”
Logan: “Um, I don’t know.”
Mom: “You’re a brother, because you’re a boy. Who is your sister?”
Logan: “Uh… Carrie!”
Mom: “Yes, that’s right! Who is your mommy?”
Logan: “YOU are!”
Mom: “You got it! Who is your daddy?”
Logan: [pointing to random guy walking out of Lowe’s] “HIM!”

My sister-in-law had this happen to her in a similar fashion, but more embarrassing. She said she’d be walking down the mall when her oldest son was about 3 or 4 and he’d point to random men and ask “Are you my daddy?” He’d laugh afterward, knowing he’d done something funny or embarrassing to his mom. She wondered if her father had taught him that.
