Light of my Life

I can check out any time I like

But I can never leave.

I have been here way, WAY too long. When I first moved to Kentucky, I thought Kentuckians were hillbillies who talked funny and didn’t wear shoes.

Okay, I was right about that, but that’s beside the point. When I arrived, I talked fast, said things like “you guys”, and thought biscuits ‘n gravy were nothing but a heart attack waiting to happen.

Right, I was right on about that last one too. But the point is, I was a Yankee at heart, though I never would’ve used that term to describe myself.

And now?

Today, I learned how to brew my own sweet tea. Good ole, southern style sweet tea. Something I used to find completely disgusting. Next Sunday I’ll probably serve it up with some grits, country ham ‘n biscuits, and a little redeye gravy. For dinner we’ll have fried chicken and cornbread.

Well, okay, I don’t actually know how to make those other things. But I LIKE them all!

Wait, except for the grits. But I’m sure it’s just a matter of time.
